St. John’s – Hospitality Newfoundland and Labrador is proud to host a Tourism Job Fair, taking place today from 10:00 am-4:00 pm at the Holiday Inn St. John’s. This inclusive event features prominent tourism employers from around the province, all of which are hoping to recruit employees for current job vacancies.

“Tourism is a significant contributor to the employment landscape in Newfoundland and Labrador, with 9% of all jobs in the province relating to tourism industries,” says Hospitality NL Chair, Larry Laite. “Speaking from experience, there is a great sense of pride that comes along with working in the province’s tourism industry and with countless opportunities spanning a variety of sectors, tourism allows you to build a rewarding career.”

Like many other industries, tourism continues to experience stiff competition for workers amid rising labour shortages. It is projected that by 2035, potential labour supply shortages in the tourism sector in Newfoundland and Labrador could reach 15.2%, leaving 3,016 jobs unfilled (source: Tourism HR Canada). As the tourism industry works to offset the impacts of this ongoing labour shortage, it is important that operators reach out to all available labour pools and explore opportunities to build more inclusive workplaces.

Last year, Hospitality NL was the proud recipient of the 2017 Business Award for Independent Living presented by Empower, The Disability Resource Centre recognizing the 2017 inclusive job fair.

Hospitality NL has worked closely with our partners, inclusionNL, Canadian Council on Rehabilitation and Work, Tourism Quality Assurance NL and the Department of Advanced Education, Skills and Labour to plan and host this event, which is generously supported by the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency, the Department of Tourism, Culture, Industry and Innovation and Steele Communications.

“Through this collaborative partnership, Hospitality NL is able to connect tourism operators with qualified potential employees, as well as provide an opportunity to learn and share recruitment and retention strategies,” adds Mr. Laite.

Hospitality Newfoundland and Labrador is the provincial tourism industry association dedicated to advancing growth in tourism through advocacy efforts, skills and knowledge development and membership opportunities.

Please Note: From 3:00 pm-4:00 pm the job fair will have a sensory friendly hour. Media outlets will not have access to the fair during this hour. Use of flash photography and any audio/visual equipment will be prohibited during this time. Adjustments may be made to the environment during this time.
