Economic Nutrition Certification in Newfoundland and Labrador

As part of the Culinary Tourism Development Project (Seasoned NL), Hospitality Newfoundland and Labrador is proud to be a Regional Cohort Partner for Economic Nutrition, helping restaurants across the province become certified. Our first Newfoundland and Labrador cohort starts in September 2026.

Show where the money goes.

Economic Nutrition is an initiative of the Shorefast Institute for Place-Based Economies. Modelled on food nutrition labelling, the Economic Nutrition Certification Mark reveals the economics beyond price for a certified product or service: what every dollar paid for, and where it went. It breaks a year of spending into two clear views: where the money goes, across local, provincial, national, and international, and what the money pays for, like labour, suppliers, and rent.

For a food or beverage business, that makes the mark a procurement tool, a trust signal, and a storyteller all in one. It is a credible way to show customers the true economic impact behind what you serve, and how much of their spend stays with local producers, suppliers, and people in your community. Restaurants are a big reason people travel to Newfoundland and Labrador, and a big focus of our culinary tourism work, so telling that story with real data matters. A lot of operators already build their business around sourcing local and keeping value close to home. Economic Nutrition goes beyond buying Canadian, grounded in the places we live and are connected to, and makes that impact visible.
