A culinary trail is a set of food and drink businesses that visitors can follow as a planned experience. We are developing two:
- A craft beverage trail, built around the province’s craft beverage producers.
- A culinary trail, focused on a specific culinary theme, highlighting the restaurants, producers, and experience providers who showcase what we grow, catch, and gather here.
Why culinary trails?
A culinary trail turns your business into a destination, rather than somewhere a visitor happens upon. People plan around trails. They drive further, they stay longer, and they arrive already ready to experience some of our province’s greatest culinary assets.
Where are we starting?
A craft beverage trail comes first. We are working with the craft beverage sector now, with the goal of having it ready for the 2027 season. What we learn building it will shape the culinary trail.
What themes are being considered for the culinary trail?
We are exploring the following:
- Shellfish
- Wild food / Wild game
- Cod
- Fishcake
We want to hear from industry on which of these would work best, and why.
What happens next?
- Craft beverage producers can express interest in joining the trail now.
- Culinary businesses can weigh in on the themes now.
- Participation criteria for both trails are being developed with industry input.
Doesn’t our province already have a lot of trails?
Yes, and they are mostly the kind you hike. The word is doing a lot of work in our province already. We are using it anyway (for now), because culinary trail is what this kind of product is called in the wider industry. Whether it ends up as a trail, a route, or something else is a marketing decision, and it has not been made yet.
Who can participate?
You do not need to be near anybody else to take part. Every operator who qualifies can go on the map, whether you sit on a route with neighbours or stand alone as a reason for the trip.
