Association for New Canadians seeking host employers in service industry for subsidized work placements

Youth Employment Smart Start consists of 10 participants (Ages 18-30). There are six weeks of in-class training and workshops on employability skills, Essential Skills and other workplace training with a focus on employment in hospitality, retail and labour. They will receive First Aid and WHMIS.  After the six weeks of in-class workshops, participants are paired with a local 22-week work placement. The program provides a subsidy for all host employers in the amount of $8.40/hour up to 30 hours per week. The coordinator keeps in contact with the participant and the supervisor to ensure quality work and a smooth transition into the Canadian workplace. After those 22 weeks, it is up to the host employer if they wish to employ the participant on their own terms if they are successful during their placement.
