For immediate release
May 22, 2020 – Hospitality Newfoundland and Labrador is pleased to see that as a result of our One Industry approach, and in partnership with Canadian Recreational Vehicle Association, that Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Janice Fitzgerald and the Provincial Government have received our recommendation submission to allow for Private Campgrounds to open for overnight accommodation in Alert Level 3 (with some restrictions in place for public spaces). Under the previous alert restrictions in Alert Level 3, Campsites were permitted to open for day use only, with restrictions on public spaces. As indicated by Dr. Fitzgerald, access will be limited to self-contained units including RVs or cabins that have a water supply, holding tanks and personal washroom facilities as long as they are located in an area with at least 30 feet between occupied camp sites.
“This is an excellent example of how a professional industry can respond to the Covid-19 crisis by developing and following guidelines that will ensure the health and safety of staff, guests and communities,” says Hospitality NL Chair, Steve Denty. “We see this as a win for our industry and our members. We will continue to work in tandem with industry partners and all levels of government to develop further guideline recommendations for all sectors of our diverse industry”.
