April 16, 2019 – Hospitality Newfoundland and Labrador is hosting a Tourism Job Fair, taking place today from 1:00 pm-7:00 pm at the Holiday Inn St. John’s. This inclusive event features prominent tourism employers from around the province, all of which are hoping to recruit employees for current job vacancies.

“Many people do not realize the economic impact that the tourism industry brings to the province,” says Hospitality NL Chair, Larry Laite. “Tourism industries such as accommodations, food & beverage services, transportation, recreation and entertainment and travel services account for almost 20,000 jobs in Newfoundland and Labrador – tourism is a $1.13 billion industry.”

Hospitality Newfoundland and Labrador supports industry operators in their quest to recruit and retain qualified employees who represent the best of NL tourism. It is projected that by 2035, the provincial tourism industry could experience one of the most acute tourism labour shortages in Canada, reaching 15.2% and leaving over 3,000 jobs unfilled (source: Tourism HR Canada). In the face of such rising labour shortages, the tourism industry must reach out to all available labour pools and explore opportunities to build more inclusive workplaces.

“Tourism’s biggest asset is our people and as an industry, we are keen to develop our workforce so that employees can build rewarding careers and guests can continue to experience our unique brand of hospitality,” adds Laite.

Hospitality NL has worked closely with our partners, InclusionNL, Tourism Quality Assurance NL and the Department of Advanced Education, Skills and Labour to plan and host this event, which is generously supported by the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency, the Department of Tourism, Culture, Industry and Innovation and Stingray.

Hospitality Newfoundland and Labrador, the provincial tourism industry association for over 35 years, is dedicated to advancing growth in tourism through advocacy efforts, skills and knowledge development and membership and networking opportunities.
