Employment Opportunity: Manager of Advocacy & Communications

Are you a well-organized individual with strong aptitude for gathering and analyzing information and presenting it in a meaningful way? Can you handle a variety of things at once? If so, consider joining our team as the Manager of Advocacy and Communications, where you will support the development of policies and communications related to the association’s role as the voice of the Newfoundland and Labrador tourism industry.

This position is accountable to the Chief Executive Officer of Hospitality NL and primary responsibilities include:

  • Research
  • Policy Analysis and Development
  • Relationship Building
  • Strategic Advocacy Planning
  • Communications Planning and Execution

Applicants for this position should have:

  • a university degree or college diploma in Tourism, Public Policy, Communications or Public Relations; however, an equivalent combination of experience and training will be considered;
  • at least 7 years’ experience in the fields of Advocacy and Communications;
  • ability to work with internal and external stakeholders including other staff, board of directors, government officials, diverse constituencies, coalitions, members, etc.
  • contributed to the preparation of policy reports, discussion papers, correspondence, presentation materials, briefing notes, press releases, speeches and other written communications;
  • experience with research, policy development and analysis;
  • excellent media contacts and proven “run” record;
  • exemplary writing, editing and oral communication skills;
  • background in developing and implementing strategic communication plans;
  • outstanding interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to build constructive and effective relationships;
  • computer skills in word processing, spreadsheets, Power Point, email, social media and the Internet;
  • excellent organizational and time management skills;
  • the ability to multi-task and prioritize working in a fast-paced, demanding environment;
  • prior experience working in a not-for-profit industry association would be an asset.
