Hospitality NL pleased to announce Tourism Week in Canada May 29th – June 4th, 2016

For Immediate Release

May 30, 2016 – Hospitality Newfoundland and Labrador is pleased to announce the start of Tourism Week, beginning Sunday, May 29th and running nation-wide until Saturday, June 4th.

“Tourism Week offers a wonderful opportunity to draw attention to all that the tourism industry currently offers, and can offer, to the economy and residents of Newfoundland and Labrador,” says Hospitality NL Chair, Dion Finlay. “From generating tax revenue and driving economic diversification to sustaining our natural and cultural heritage, the provincial tourism industry is helping to create and ensure healthy and vibrant communities in all corners of Newfoundland and Labrador.”

Throughout the week, national and provincial tourism industry leaders will showcase the economic impact and social benefits of Canada’s tourism and travel sector. Tourism offers incredible economic opportunities and social benefits and when strategically planned for future growth and development, drives investment generating new jobs and tax revenues for all regions across Canada to the benefit of all residents and business sectors.

Hospitality NL is especially honored today to attend the Tourism Week Luncheon in Gander and applaud the efforts and achievements of tourism operators in the region who embody the very best of tourism in NL. Throughout the week, along with partners and stakeholders, Hospitality NL will be attending special events celebrating and communicating the tremendous value of tourism and travel to the province.

“Innovative and industrious tourism operators continue to invest greatly in their businesses to ensure the products and services sought by travelers to Newfoundland and Labrador are of the highest quality,” adds Mr. Finlay. “The hard work and determination of the tourism industry is producing results. Accounting for eight percent of all provincial jobs and more than 2,500 businesses across Newfoundland and Labrador, tourism generates more than $1.1 billion in annual spending and the potential to sustainably grow our industry has never been greater and I encourage all residents to get out and explore exactly what tourism has to offer to them and their community.”

Hospitality Newfoundland and Labrador is the provincial tourism industry association dedicated to advancing growth in tourism through advocacy efforts, skills and knowledge development and membership opportunities.
