Hospitality Newfoundland and Labrador pleased to showcase the value of tourism during Annual Tourism Week

For Immediate Release

June 2, 2016 – Hospitality Newfoundland and Labrador is pleased to collaborate with partners and stakeholders across the province to highlight the value and potential of tourism during Tourism Week 2016.

“Tourism Week is not only about celebrating the value of tourism to both the economy and way of life for residents, but about acknowledging its potential and determining how tourism operators, regional networks, industry partners and stakeholders can all work better together to harness that potential to the benefit of all Canadians,” says Hospitality NL Chair, Dion Finlay.

“Tourism is diversifying the economy, driving investment and creating jobs while strengthening communities and business partnerships. It is the fourth largest export in the world and the biggest service export in Canada. An economic driver for our country, tourism generates $88.5 billion in economic activity across every community in Canada, contributing to the livelihood of over 190,000 small- and medium-sized tourism businesses and supporting over 637,000 jobs.

“The global impact, and potential of the tourism industry, is truly incredible and we are very fortunate that our country features spectacular geography, world-class cosmopolitan centres, and perhaps most importantly, warm, friendly people who work diligently to welcome visitors as they would friends,” adds Mr. Finlay.

Throughout the week, national and provincial tourism industry leaders not only showcase the economic impact and social benefits of Canada’s tourism and travel sector, but issue a call to action to decision-makers from across the country concerning public policy challenges that will enable growth within the sector itself. Tourism offers incredible economic opportunities and social benefits and smarter public policy would not just stimulate travel, but drive investment, generating new jobs and tax revenues for all regions across Canada to the benefit of all residents.

Hospitality Newfoundland and Labrador is the provincial tourism industry association dedicated to advancing growth in tourism through advocacy efforts, skills and knowledge development and membership opportunities.
