Dallas Mercer Consulting Inc. (DMC) Receives Premier's Award - October 27, 2008
On Wednesday, October 25, 2008, the Mount Pearl Chamber of Commerce announced the recipients of the 10th Annual Mount Pearl Best in Business Awards presented to the member that has exemplified excellence in their industry, achieved significant growth in sales and persevered through a tough transitional period. Presenting the award was Kevin Harnum, Area Manager for TD Canada Trust and DMC Consultants' Tracy Froude & Kim Lewis were there to accept the award on behalf of DMC.

The Mount Pearl Chamber of Commerce created the Premier's Award to recognize outstanding achievements and contributions made by small businesses. Larry Jay, host of OZ-FM's "Dawn Patrol" was master of ceremonies of the event held at the Reid Community Centre in Mount Pearl and John Steele, President of Steele Communications and Chair Person for Daffodil Place was the guest speaker. Sponsored by TD Canada Trust, DMC was chosen among five other finalists including Exit Realty on the Rock, NL Credit Union, Smitty's Restaurant, Sunrise ventures, Teletech, and Young Drivers of Canada.

Harbour Grace South native Dallas Mercer is President and Owner of DMC, a Disability Management Company specializing in Leave Management, Workers' Compensation Claims Management, as well as, Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) Engineering.

While working as the Employer Advisor with the Newfoundland Labrador Employers' Council (NLEC), Dallas discovered that employers have little knowledge and competence of the workers' compensation system and the important role that they play in the disability management process. With a keen eye for business and over 10 years experience working in Disability & Claims Management at WHSCC, she saw an opportunity to provide much needed professional solutions faced by employers.

Now in its sixth year, her business has grown to include her own office building on Topsail Road complete with a staff of ten competent employees and a fully equipped training centre serving clients in all provinces of Atlantic Canada and Alberta. The organization's disability managers are experienced professionals with in-depth knowledge obtained from working in Disability & Claims Management in the workers' compensation system. DMC has developed a proven track record in assisting injured and disabled employees return to gainful employment and reducing its clients' disability related costs.

"Winning the Premier's Award demonstrates that hard work pays off. It is a wonderful feeling to be recognized in such a manner," says Dallas. "My congratulations go out to all the nominees and many thanks to our clients who continue to support us. I would also like to thank our amazing employees who are dedicated to providing effective Disability Management and Occupational Health and Safety Services, and I can honestly say, that we would not be where we are today without them all."

A&W Restaurant in Mount Pearl, Employment Equity Merit Award. Kurtis Coombs, Youth Entrepreneur Award for his business Naturally Newfoundland. President Harry Bartlett of H.J.
