Congratulations Ryan Mansion! - January 30, 2008
Hospitality Newfoundland and Labrador would like to congratulate one of its newest members, Ryan Mansion in downtown St. John's. Ryan Mansion was named one of the top five best hotels to open in 2007. Check out the article printed in the Ottawa Citizen (below).

5 best hotels to open in 2007

Michele Sponagle, Citizen Special

1. The Hazelton, Toronto: At last, the city catches up to other world-class cities with a truly luxurious, boutique hotel property. The heated floors and wee television set in the mirror make the bathrooms in this Yorkville property a very cosy place to be.

2. Yotel, Gatwick airport, London: If you've ever had a long layover in Gatwick, you know the feeling of time standing still. Now you can sleep in a real bed, instead of contorting like a bonsai tree to doze on an airport benches. About $50 for four hours in this Japanese-inpsired capsule hotel.

3. Custom Hotel, Los Angeles: Fun and functional meet head on at this hotel, located conveniently near LAX, and it comes out a tie. It boasts a strong animal attraction, with sheep-shaped stools in the lobby and touches like throws on the bed that feature dogs' faces. The rooms aren't mammoth but well priced from about $164 U.S. a night.

4. Ryan Mansion, St. John's, Nfld.: If you can't afford your own mansion, this lovely downtown inn, in a building that dates back to 1911, is the next best thing. Guest rooms are exquisitely decorated with fireplaces, marble baths and cushy beds that you can float on like you're on a big puffy cloud.

5. Banyan Tree Lijiang, Yunnan province, China: The concept of luxury hotels is a new one to China, but the country nailed it perfectly with this one. Banyan Tree's 55 villas come decked out in black, red and gold, and Jacuzzis that overlook Jade Dragon Snow Mountain and lush rice fields.
