Tourism Week in Canada

Tourism Week is a national initiative that highlights the impact of travel and tourism in Canada and raises the sector’s profile with policy-makers from coast to coast. Newfoundland and Labrador tourism is a thriving, sustainable industry that has developed into an important economic enabler for all areas of the province, generating over a billion dollars annually. Tourism embodies all that is special about Newfoundland and Labrador: our people, our place and our potential. Now, more than ever, is a time to highlight and celebrate the importance of the travel and tourism industry to our economy and in making this province not only a great place to visit, but a great place to live, work and invest.

Throughout the week, Hospitality Newfoundland and Labrador, destination management organizations, businesses and other partners will organize and engage in a variety of regional and provincial activities and events that showcase the economic impact and social benefits of the tourism sector for the media, the general public and all three levels of government.

Tourism is an $84.8 billion industry in Canada that directly supports 614,600 jobs from coast to coast.

To celebrate Tourism Week and to recognize the contribution tourism makes economically and socially to the province, Hospitality NL will be hosting and participating in various events. Also during Tourism Week, Hospitality NL will present the Ambassador of Hospitality Award. This award, given annually, recognizes individuals or groups who, through their careers, private lives or volunteer work, show dedication to the promotion and development of the tourism industry in Newfoundland and Labrador. Ambassadors have been selected from a wide range of areas such as the arts, broadcasting, entertainment, business and education.
